ANSWERS:
- All persons with STDs have obvious symptoms. T or F;
F: FACT: 80% don't even know they are infected.
- Only people with visible or open STD sores are
contagious. T or F; F: FACT:
More than 2/3 of infections are spread by people with no
identifiable symptoms
- No vaccine exists for any STD. T or F; F: FACT: There
is one for hepatitis B.
- Vaginal infections are inconvenient but not

or control the HIV epidemic. Several possible vaccines are in the trial stage.
- The number of people worldwide living with HIV/AIDS
is estimated to be: There are ~31 million people in the world living

- A. That both these factors resulted in a significant
increase in sexual activity of teenagers.
B. That both these factors resulted in a significant decrease in sexual activity of

C. That both these factors resulted in no significant increase in
sexual activity of teenagers. One of the most persistent myths of our society is
that sex education and condom availability turn teenagers into sex-machines (mother nature
is the real culprit) nor does it cause a significant decline in sexual activity. However,
all the scientific data I've seen indicates that sexual activity actually declines or
remains the same. I'll give anyone 2 points who can bring me valid scientific data that
indicates the opposite. A simple way to judge this is to answer the question "would this knowledge/availability (in high school) have made me more or
less sexually active in those years?"

How did you do? Don't feel bad if you didn't know the answers to these
questions, as few people do. The larger concern is that you may someday have sex with
someone who is unaware of the extent of the STD problem.
