Strengthen
collaboration with state agencies, business and industry and educational
institutions to generate a comprehensive state plan for science/mathematics
education for the next ten years.
Establish WSU
as a regional networking center for teachers.
Collaborate
with the College of Education to ensure that preservice teacher training
in sciences and mathematics is consistent with National Science Education
Standards, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the state
of Washington Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) in
Science.
Excite
eighth through tenth grade students through the Cougar Summer Science
Camp and other summer science camps.
Continue
to design and implement innovative graduate degree programs for elementary,
middle and high school science teachers.
SMEEC has graduated 50 teachers from the MA in Chemistry program and
15 teachers in the MS in Biology program in recent years. Both programs
were part of the SMEEC short term vision.
